Close to 20 active-duty coastguardmen from Marine Safety Unit Port Canaveral, CGC Vigilant, and CGC Skipjack were in attendance. In addition, students from the newly commissioned Auxiliary University Program at Florida Tech and several Coast Guard Auxiliary officers were in attendance. Courageous Division Sea Cadets did another fabulous job providing the color guard. Our own retired Coast Guard Master Chief Sean Edwards provided an heartfelt invocation and reading of the POW/MIA Table script. Council President Carl Cramb provided a tribute to the long standing relationship between the Coast Guard and Navy League and highlighted why the Navy League continues to support the Coast Guard today and going forward. Florida State Senator Debbie Mayfield provided a Proclamation commemorating the Coast Guard Birthday, which was read aloud and provided to MSU Port Canaveral CO, CDR Matt Zinn to be hung appropriately at the Coast Guard Station. Sea Cadet Carson Luck, who recently attended the National Flight Academy in Pensacola, Florida provided an exceptional overview of his week long STEM study in to naval aviation. Commodore Jason Aleksak (Sector Jacksonville) enlightened everyone on the storied history of the Coast Guard and the tremendous work his coastguardsmen are doing on a daily basis here in Brevard County.
